About the Artist

Thanks for visiting my website! I hope you enjoy viewing my art as much as I enjoy painting it. I've been drawing and painting ever since I can remember. You couldn't leave a piece of paper lying around in my house without me drawing on it. I started taking formal art lessons when I was four years old with local artist Sue Miller. For many years, my I spent my lessons trying to copy pictures out of her reference books to learn the basics. When I decided to start making original paintings, I started out mostly painting fairies and other fantasy work due in large part to influence and inspiration from Sue's paintings. However, growing up in a fairly rural region of northern New Jersey, I spent a lot of time outdoors, and nature has been my biggest influence. It has been the main subject of my later and recent work. I have also done a few portraits, and it is always interesting to see a personality come through the painting. I like to use a lot of symbolism in my work, even though sometimes it probably only makes sense to me. I mostly use watercolor paint, but sometimes work with oil and acrylics.
In early 2011, I was accepted to participate in the Enchanted Visions project started by fantasy artists Amy Brown and Jessica Galbreth. I have also been signed to a few companies that have used my artwork on their products. Sometimes I participate in local art and/or craft shows, but hope to display it at bigger venues in the future. Recently I have been making handmade gifts, which are for sale, such as personalized wine glasses and candles. I try to use as many eco-friendly and recycled materials as possible when making these. I also paint on sea shells which makes an interesting and unique gift.
As for my personal interests, I love the work of Georgia O'Keeffe, Vincent Van Gogh, and Alphonse Mucha. Some current artists that I admire are Amy Brown, Jody Bergsma, Dale Chihuly, and especially mixed-media artist Dolan Geiman. Sue of course has been an inspiration too, and I still go to draw and paint with her often. Through the years she has become like family to me. Besides my artisitic background, I am currently studying environmental science and Italian at Rutgers University and conducting a research project dealing with microbes and waste water treatment. I do some modeling in my spare time, and also bellydance. I also enjoy yoga, gardening, and any outdoor activity like hiking or camping.
Again, thanks for visiting my website. If you would like to contact me, I can be reached at kdellaterza@yahoo.com.
